Have you visited Lincoln's Arboretum?
One of Lincoln's hidden gems!
As you walk down Monks Road you might not expect to find over twenty acres of greenery, with fountains, ponds, children's play park, a life size maze and a giant lion!
The beautifully maintained park dates back to 1870 and following a £3million renovation in 2003 is as picturesque as ever. Ideal for winter walks, and a perfect place to take the kids to collect conkers in the autumn. Don't forget to stop off at The Arboretum Café, where unemployed learners within the community are taught food preparation and food service skills in hope of gaining employment.
Year round Creative Workshops are ran at the neighbouring Community Centre to keep those idle hands busy!
"The Big Gig in the Arboretum was first held in 2013 and was led by a group of local Monks Road residents called Action LN2. Action LN2 are a voluntary group who are working hard to make the Monks Road area a better place to live. The Big Gig was an idea that was inspired by a 15 year old girl who wanted to make a change in her community. The 2013 event was a huge success with hundreds of people attending and enjoying an array of local music talents as well as side stalls."
