Welcome to Lincoln

Are you a student at the University of Lincoln? Or are you thinking about coming here? Have a read of all the things you absolutely have to do when you arrive.

Lincoln has a student population of around 10,000 and you're lucky enough to be one of the people studying in this city filled with culture, history and beautiful sights.

While you could spend all your time drinking and studying, I would highly advise you get out there and see this city you are now calling home. Have a read of the things you should definitely be sure to do - whether its on a sunny day or a cool night, they'll be sure to impress.

The Swan My first port of call is the Students Union's pub; home to sweet-inspired cocktails and the cheapest food and drinks you'll find in the city, The Swan is a must visit for and UoL student. Not only do the views across the Brayford impress beyond anyone's expectations but it has literally just reopened after a huge refurbishment, meaning the menu, seating, decoration and everything else is 100% sparkly and new!

Lincoln Cathedral Stood at the top of Steep Hill, the Cathedral is arguably the most noticeable part of the city and one filled with a great deal of history. You'll be graduating here in here three years or so and a walk up to the Cathedral is an experience and a half - provided you make it up Steep Hill alive! With free entry on Sundays, you'd be a fool not to go in and find the Lincoln Imp (ask one of the guides if you're struggling!)

Coffee Shops

Lincoln is filled with hundreds of cute and quirky cafés that if you head off to a chain then you're really not experiencing everything this independent city has to offer. If you fancy a slice of a mouth-watering cake head to Coffee Bobbins, if you'd prefer a blooming tea the the High Bridge Café would be more up your street, or if you want to go all out then head up Steep Hill to Bunty's for an afternoon tea to die for!

The Collection & Usher Gallery

If you would like a true taste of historic Lincoln then be sure to head to The Collection which combines an archeology museum and art gallery. The archaeology museum walks you through time from the Stone Ages while teaching you about the history of mankind in a fun way. The Usher Gallery, Lincoln's art gallery, has a number of collections including portraiture, sculpture and decorative arts.

PlayZone

Ever imagined being an 'adult' (I agree, I don't feel like one either) and playing in a soft play area? Well in Lincoln you can! After they close to kids on Tuesday evenings, PlayZone run a student night where you can play on all the equipment you enjoyed in your childhood.

Lincoln Castle

The number one question you will be asked by anyone you know is, 'Have you been to see the Magna Carta yet?' so you may as well just head up to the Castle and see the original 1215 copy so as you can happily say you did. Tickets may be a little pricey but it's definitely worth it to indulge in Lincoln's history and see the amazing views from the Medieval Wall Walk.

Lincoln Arboretum The Arboretum is the perfect place to finish, as it is my favourite in the whole of this wonderful city. The vast green space allows you to take a leisurely walk, no matter the time of year. Find your way out of the maze, relax on the bandstand or grab a coffee in the Arboretum Café.
